They're also jumping the gun, since the new Mayor -- elected by an overwhelming vote -- doesn't like the idea.
Government shouldn't be in the land speculation business.

way to go mullins. had to put us in more debt just before you leave. i am glad you are outta here and hope that our new mayor will do palatine a better justice than you have!!!!!!! i know our new mayor will listen to all of the residents in palatine, unlike you whom we see as a disgrace to the town!!! you seem to think that those whom work hard to live here can afford your mess ups but we can not. also you seem to forget that there are residents whom are disabled and you do not give a rats a-- about when requests are put into place!!!!!!!!!

One last bad Rita deal....... now we can all move forward. Just why is it so imperative that this fire station be build when there is an existing one just down the street?? This is just another pork project shoved down the people of Palatine's throats again. The era of apathy is over, however, and now that we have new leadership, hopefully the people of Palatine will get better stewardship of their money by their elected officials.

Perfect. One last secret meeting without public disclosure and you obligate Palatine taxpayers for years to come.
How about a referendum or some public input?
Exactly who is receiving the cash for the two properties and does any of it make its way back to you-know-who before the commemorative plaques go up?

So what's happening with the old Kmart plaza on Hicks road?

Nice going Rita, one last stunt to stick it to the taxpayers of Palatine as you drag your sorry butt out the door. And do us all a favor and take Wagner with you.

"Assistant Village Manager Sam Trakas said officials don't have a set vision for the site and are open to different concepts."
How cute, they don't know what they want to do with the property, if it is a viable deal or if it is even needed, but they are willing to spend 8 million bucks of your money.
No vision = Blind

Nice way to make headlines with less than a week left in her tenure - it would have been nice to wait and let Jim have some official input and direction on expenditures of this size. If all they did was authorize bonds last night, he may still have a chance to nix the Menards deal before anything is signed with the property owners. The fire station probably should move forward though, at least there's a goal and community benefit with that site.

I believe the firehouse on Palatine Road is not that old itself. We do need a new police station. That is what the property should be for. I know they have been pushing for a new city hall which they do not need. Odd that this went through without anyone knowing about it. I am sure there would have been huge opposition if it was known. Apparently the administration that was left, did not take heed from the voting out of Rita and Jezerski! In two years, we can work on the rest!
Hey Mayor Schwantz...you might want to hire a special auditor to go through the books for the last 20 years and see where the money was really going. I am sure you would find some interesting expendatures.

No need for to purchase this real estate. Time to tighten the belt, not start new projects.

The only reason to build new fire stations in a fixed boundary, full developed district is to hire more full time personnel, and build the empire.
It is the only job I know where you get paid to sleep.

Hey, there is a recession on and skulduggery is getting harder and harder.
We have to keep the village's favorite realtor "Lerry Teighty" busy doling out commission money.

The new Mayor needs to invite the US Attorney or the FBI to come in, sit down and review , unfettered, all the internal, behind-the-scene workings of the Village for the last 20 years; especially regarding land purchases, zoning and all the dirty deals involving the rebirth of downtown Palatine.
Phew, and they better wear a respirator.

8 million dollars for a piece of property with no set vision. But the Village is 'open for suggestions'. Sure they are.
There's a plan alright, just not a plan that the Village wants to share with the residents that have to pay the bills.
This is unfortunately what the Palatine Village Council is known for:
Abuse of Power
Secret Plans
Corrupt Ethics

The Cook County Assessors Office says this land is assessed at 857,144.
At 25% assessed/value this means the commercial land is only worth 3.4 million.
So ..... Who is getting the extra 4.6 million?
The running cost of the property on a 20 yr bond (mortgage + property taxes) is about 80k/ mo. Throw in maintenance and you blow 1 million a year for NOTHING.
Cute.
So... exactly who's idea was it to move on the purchase and set up the bonus Council Meeting behind closed doors? Names, please.
What was the role call on the vote (yea/nay). Residents would like to know before the next election.
Village Council, we need a letter from you on the web site explaining your actions and why you shouldn't be recalled from office immediately.
